Abstract

Production, availability, to the price of necessity, have become major concerns and problems in small island areas, it is also correlated with the timing and how sea transportation plays a role in the effort to meet the demand for goods transportation via sea transportation in the Kangean Islands. This Lighter Abroad Ship (LASH) is a cargo ship that utilizes cargo in the form of floating barges that function as a floating warehouse. The concept of using LASH ships is aimed at reducing the time to dock at the port, so as to shorten the time for ships to remain at port, which is intended to increase the effectiveness of transporting cargo. The method used to determine cargo size is to use the approach of total consumption per capita population and the percentage of cargo from vessels currently serving the Kangean Islands route, then calculating the barging capacity. To determine the maximum capacity of the ship, the method of configuring the displacement (loading and unloading) of the barge is used to obtain the maximum barge capacity on board. From the experimental results, the maximum barge capacity on board is 24 barges. With ship sizes L 38.99 m, B 11.14 m, H 5.20 m, and T 3.90 m. Calculation of the capital costs of ships, barges, and docks / ports, operating costs of ships, ports, as well as some load factor considerations of cargo and income, an economic analysis is obtained that the BEP will occur in the 9th year and NPV of 23.528 billion rupiah.
