Abstract

Pengukuran indeks bias memiliki peran penting untuk berbagai industri. salah satu sensor indeks bias yang biasa digunakan adalah sensor indeks bias berbasis serat optik. pada penelitian ini digunakan serat optik dengan jenis graded-index multimode fiber dimana indeks bias pada core berubah secara bertahap. dalam penelitian ini dilakukan beberapa tahapan simulasi yaitu uji spektrum dengan variasi panjang yaitu 5cm 10cm dan 15cm, uji spektrum dengan variasi indeks bias cladding yaitu 1.35, 1.4, dan 1.44, kemudian dilakukan uji pengaruh indeks bias cladding terhadap daya keluaran. lalu dilakukan kembali uji pengaruh indeks bias terhadap daya keluaran dengan penambahan pengaruh Kerr effect dimana indeks bias dari core akan berubah ketika dipaparkan sinar dengan intensitas tinggi. Pada pengujian perubahan indeks bias terhadap output didapatkan hasil dengan sensitivitas sebesar 0.295 dan nilai non-linearitas sebesar 1.311 sedangkan jika diberi pengaruh Kerr effect terjadi peningkatan sensitivitas sebesar 17% dan penurunan nilai non-linearitas sebesar 27%. Pada penelitian ini didapatkan bahwa penambahan Kerr effect akan membuat hubungan antara indeks bias dengan daya keluaran menjadi lebih linear. namun untuk mendapatkan perubahan yang signifikan diperlukan daya masukan yang sangat besar.

Refractive index measurement is fundamental in a lot of industries. one of which is fiber-optics based sensors.serat optik based refractive-index sensors have been extensively studied for the applications like in biomedical, chemical, and environmental fields due to their outstanding advantages, such as high sensitivity, small size, etc. in this final project experiment, a graded index multimode fiber, the one where the core's revractive index varies parabolically, which spliced between two identical singlemode fibers as a sensor. 3 graded index multimode fibers with a different length, 5cm 10cm and 15cm, were used for the sensors. 4 tests were done to determine the relation between refractive index and the output power of the serat optik sensor. from all the test we analize the data and determine that the relation between refractive index and the output power is liear at the refractive index of 1.3 to 1.44. then a Kerr effect study was applied to understand its effect on the serat optik sensor. from this study we can conclude that the application of Kerr effect increases the serat optiks performance.
