Abstract

Indonesia is located in one of the earthquake active region of the world. One of the biggest earthquake that ever recorded happened in this country’s region. Unfortunately, there are still many losses that caused by the earthquake in the recent years, and it shows the lack of preparation for facing the earthquake. There is a need of various attempts for reducing the risk of an earthquake, where the disaster simulation has been the primary choice. But, there is still limitation from it, so it needed in another form. With the growth of internet usage in Indonesia, and the rise of popularity of video-sharing platform, Youtube, then therefore, motion graphic media is designed as a socialization effort of disaster mitigation. The design method used in this stage is first to extract data by means of interviews with sources such as disaster agencies and geologists. This stage aims to identify problems and look for the values that will be conveyed. The results of these studies are supported by literature studies, and compared with existing and related research and media. The design of motion graphics for earthquake disaster mitigation is uaing comparison between what the people needs to do and what they should have to avoid. The output generated from this design is in the form of a motion graphic of earthquake mitigation, that is informative and encouraging, which is distributed via Youtube. It is hoped that the audience can understand and implement a series of mitigation activities to deal with future earthquakes.
