Abstract

Pada pemisahan campuran etanol-air dengan sieve tray pada
kolom distilasi, efisiensi yang dihasilkan kurang baik. Dengan
penambahan packing serabut besi luas kontak untuk perpindahan
masa vapour-liquid menjadi lebih besar. Pressure drop meningkat
karena interfacial area antara vapor dan liquid menjadi lebih baik.
Sehingga efisiensi Murphee juga meningkat.
Metode penelitian ini menggunakan sistem batch dengan
penambahan packing serabut besi pada pada tray ke-3. Pada
penelitian ini, digunakan hasil fermentasi molasses yang
mempunyai kadar etanol sebesar 10 % volume sebagai feed.
Penambahan packing dengan variabel tinggi packing 5 cm, 3 cm
dan 2 cm.
Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan efisiensi Murphee untuk
tinggi packing 5 cm, 3 cm, 2 cm dan tanpa packing adalah 74%,
67%, 57%, dan 47%. Efisiensi Murphee dengan menggunakan
packing meningkat sebanyak 22-58% dari 47%. Dengan
pengukuran dari manometer air didapatkan perbandingan pressure
drop dengan tinggi packing 5 cm, 3cm, 2 cm adalah 38,33
cmH2O/m, 30 cmH2O/m, 10 cmH2O/m. Dan interfacial area
sebesar 11,88 cm2/cm3., 0,48 cm2/cm3dan 0,32 cm2/cm3

Separation of ethanol-water with sieve tray has lower
efficiency. With wire mesh packing being added, providing bigger
interfacial area for vapour-liquid. Pressure drop become higher but
the efficiency is better than without packing.
This research method use bacth system with the addition of
wire mesh packing on the third tray. In this study, fermented
molasses which has a 10% volume of ethanol has been used as
feed. Wire mesh packing was added with height of 5, 3 and 2 cm.
The Murphee efficiency obtained from the experiment for
packed with 5 cm, 3 cm, 2 cm height and without packing were
73,5%, 66,27%, 56,86%, and 46,7% respectively. Efficiency
Murphee for tray with packing has increased 22-58% from 47%.
Meanwhile, the pressure drop from the water manomater
measurement were 38,33 cmH2O/m, 30 cmH2O/m, 10 cmH2O/m
for packing with 5 cm, 3 cm, 2 cm height. And the interfacial area
were 11,88 cm2/cm3., 0,48 cm2/cm3 dan 0,32 cm2/cm3
