Abstract

Floating breakwater present as an alternative to the fixed breakwater system
where the floating breakwater has the advantage that it can be used in areas with
poor foundation conditions, and can be used in areas with relatively deep water
depths. One of the fundamental aspects in the design of a floating breakwater is the
mooring system, as it is used to keep the floating breakwater in position and affect
its transmission. In this Final Project research, an experimental study will be carried
out to obtain the value of mooring stress in type-1 serrated floating breakwater and
pontoon type floating breakwater as a comparison. Physical testing is carried out in
a wave flume with variations in wave height (H), wave period (T), slope angle (°),
and porosity (%). The result of this research found the largest maximum mooring
tension value on the ponton type floating breakwater and serrated type at the 45°
slope and 0% porosities consecutive is 20.83 kN/m² and 16.96 kN/m², while the
smallest maximum mooring tension occurred at the 45° slope and 5% porosities
consecutive is 12.04 kN/m² and 13.31 kN/m². Meanwhile, the comparison of the
value of the mooring tension that occurs between the serrated type floating
breakwater is 17.50% - 41.41% lower than the ponton type floating breakwater.
