Abstract

The problem that often occurs on the battlefield is the reduced function of projectiles due to unstable environmental conditions, thereby reducing the physical and functional properties of the projectiles. Based on this problem, a study was conducted on the effect of temperature and humidity in the storage environment of projectiles on projectile quality. Frangible bullets are currently more in demand because their content which does not contain lead makes them more environmentally friendly so they are in great demand. So that in this study, the bullets used were frangible bullets. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of moisture on the mechanical, physical, and morphological properties of the frangible bullets. As well as analyzing the effect of temperature on the mechanical, physical and morphological properties of the projectile frangible bullets will be analyzed with literature studies and experiments. In the experiment, temperature variables <5, 15-25 and> 30oC and humidity variables <50, 50-60 and> 70%. From the results of visual testing, there were visual changes due to the storage process, including bluish-green spots on the surface of the bullets, brown spots, and a blackish gray color change in some samples. The hardness test shows a decrease in the hardness value below the standard hardness value of the frangible bullets in samples stored in an environment with humidity below 50% RH and an increase in the hardness standard values for samples with temperatures> 30oC and humidity> 70% (T3H3). The characterization test shows the presence of new phases such as CuO and S elements in the sample after the storage process.
