Abstract

In general, logistics costs are divided into several components, namely transportation costs (freight costs), storage and inventory costs, administrative costs, tax costs, risk and damage costs, and handling and packaging costs. PT. X is a subsidiary of the largest food & beverage manufacturing industry in Indonesia which is engaged in the distributor of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG). The biggest cost contributor in the logistics operations of PT. X is the cost of the expedition (freight cost) which is 64.92% of the total. Therefore, the distribution process strategy is a major concern. One of the problems at PT. X is not achieving the daily delivery rate target, as well as trying to minimize freight costs in the distribution process. The alternative scenario model for improvement to help solve the problem is by determining several policies related to the departure scheduling of each area, as well as operational time windows that are adjusted to several factors. Problem-solving using a discrete-event simulation (DES) approach with the help of ARENA software. This is to determine the effect of the policy on the predetermined parameters, namely the achievement of daily rates and minimizing freight costs, as well as optimizing distribution operations. The implementation of the best scenario alternative can increase the percentage of successful delivery by 20.45% with an achievement rate of 18 deliveries/day. As well as reducing the waiting time for each delivery area by 50-70% and delivery cycle time by 5.47% for RIT 1 and 9.82% for RIT 2. Therefore, the freight cost gap between the target and the actual is also reduced by Rp. . 40.656.000,- with a percentage efficiency cost of 21.69% (accumulated per year).
