Abstract

Reading literacy in Indonesia in general is still very low, this is shown from the results of a study published under the name "The Worlds Most Literate Nations" Indonesia is ranked 60th out of 61 countries in the world. One of the causes of low reading literacy in Indonesia is the low interest in reading which will be accompanied by a low reading culture. Interest in reading is one of the strengths that is the reason and encourages someone to pay attention, feel interested and happy in reading activities so that reading activities can be done on their own accord without any coercion. The purpose of this study was to describe the reading interest of ITS students and find out the factors that influence the reading interest of ITS students by using ordinal logistic regression. This study uses primary data obtained by surveying ITS students. The results of the analysis show that 60.8% of respondents are not interested in reading, 33.1% of respondents are interested in reading, and only 6% of respondents are very interested in reading. While the factors that influence the level of interest in reading ITS students are hobbies, reading interests, types of reading that are of interest, environmental support for reading, number of entertainment books owned, number of knowledge books owned, frequency of visits to the library, interest in buying reading books, and duration of access social media content. Overall the level of interest in reading ITS students can be predicted accurately by the model of 71.68%.
