Abstract

The surface layer of the road pavement serves to carry and spread the traffic load to provide comfort to road users during its service period. But, early damage to the pavement layer often occurs before the service life ends. Utilization of natural rubber material SIR 20 in a mixture of Asphalt Concrete Thin-Layer (AC-TL) on the surface layer on the road pavement structure is expected to be able to help solve this problem.
The addition of natural rubber to the asphalt mixture was carried out using the dry method, namely the percentage of natural rubber content was calculated from the total weight of asphalt and mixed with aggregate. The size of the mixed rubber pieces passes sieve No.4 (4.75 mm)-stuck to sieve No.16 (1.18 mm). The various variation in the addition of the percentage of rubber studied included 0%, 6%, 8% and 10%. The test carried out in this study is the Marshall test.
The results of the study indicate that the variation in the percentage of addition of SIR20 rubber in the AC-TL mixture increases the marshall characteristic value of the asphalt mixture. The best optimum results of each percentage level are shown in the addition of 8% rubber content and 5.8% asphalt content with a stability value of 2121.09 kg; flow value 3.80 mm; VIM value 3.82%; VMA value 17.25%; VFA value 77.91%; MQ 558.18 kg / mm.
