Abstract

The use of organic inhibitors is a new solution to protect
corrosion because it is cheap, biodegradable, and environmentally
friendly. The organic inhibitor used was guava leaf extract with
concentrations of 0, 785, 1188, and 1570 ppm. The extraction
method used is the maceration method, from the extraction results
GCMS is carried out. The results of the GCMS test showed that
guava leaf extract contained Globulol compounds with a percent
area of 5.78 and Citronella with a percent area of 4.05. These
compounds are heteroatoms and phenolics that can form a
protective layer on metal surfaces.
Based on the research that has been done, the addition of this
extract is able to make the corrosion rate to 0.0016 mm/year at a
concentration of 785 ppm. The corrosion rate was obtained at a
temperature of 30℃ using 1M HCL media. At the addition of the
same concentration, the inhibition efficiency showed 96.96% in the
impedance test. From the tests carried out (Potiodynamic
Polarization and Impedance) showed that guava leaf extract was
able to be an alternative organic inhibitor. This is also shown from
the SEM results that have been carried out, namely the formation
of a protective layer on the metal surface.
