Abstract

PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur Daerah Operasi Bagian Utara (PHKT DOBU) is company of exploitation and production crude oil and natural gas to meet energy needs in Indonesia. The exploitation and production process for crude oil and natural gas at PHKT DOBU consists of STA Platform, Attaka Platform, and Santan Terminal processes. Activities of exploitation and production of crude oil and natural gas will produce pollutants which become a source of pollution for the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct an environmental impact study using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method on the process of crude oil and natural gas products. LCA is a method for analyzing environmental impacts across all units of a company process to produce a product. This study identifies the environmental impact of the unit operating process based on the cradle to gate approach on two products, namely crude oil and natural gas at PHKT DOBU. The method used to categorize the impact on the LCA study is ReCipe 2016 at the midpoint and endpoint levels with the SimaPro application. To support the LCA study, an uncertainty analysis was carried out by assessing the quality of the data to determine the probability distribution of the data and analyzed using a Monte Carlo simulation. Based on the results of the LCA analysis and uncertainty analysis, an environmental impact reduction scenario analysis was carried out with an environmental program.
Environmental impact assessment with LCA shows that the production process of 1 ton natural gas contributes a greater impact, namely 60.59 Pt than the production process of 1 ton crude oil, which is 9.18 Pt, with the most dominant environmental impact being fossil resource scarcity. This is because in the natural gas production process, the largest environmental impact comes from the Compressor Station and Gas Lift Compressor units, which function to inject most of the natural gas back into the well, aiming to push crude oil out while a small portion of natural gas becomes product. Compressor Station and Gas Lift Compressor have more functions in the crude oil production process, but in this LCA study the two process units are included in the natural gas production process based on the determination of product allocation. In the crude oil production process, the largest environmental impact contribution comes from the Water Treatment System, ATK-PP Shipping Pump, and Crude Heater process units. In the natural gas production process, the largest environmental impact contribution comes from the Compressor Station, Gas Lift Compressor, and 2nd Stage Compressor process units. The uncertainty analysis of the emission data of the production process of 1 ton crude oil contributes to the environmental impact between 8.48 – 10.9 Pt and the production process of 1 ton natural gas contributes to the environmental impact between 52.46 – 71.60 Pt. The most optimum environmental program in reducing environmental impact on the crude oil production process is the installation of VSD on ATK-PP Shipping Pump with a percentage reduction of 2.817% impact. Meanwhile, in the natural gas production process, the Dovetaul Crown Tip modification program on the rotor compressor with a percentage reduction in impact of 7.236%.
