Abstract

Hip joint could suffer damages due to several factors, like age, accident, and disease. Artificial hip joint is one of the way to treat the disease. Investment casting is a method that numerously used to cast AHP, because of its superior precise finishing. To find the optimum parameter, simulation using finite element method is done. By simulate the investment casting first, it expected to find the optimum parameters obtained for production phase. In this research, casting modelling with variation consists of shell thickness with 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 mm and gating system design with single and multiple gate are conducted. From the variation, it expected to obtain optimum temperature distribution, fluidity, solidification process, and defect formation. The optimum result is in 11 mm mold thickness variation and multi gate gating system design.
