Abstract

Microbial contamination (bacteria and viruses) such as SARS-CoV-2 virus has caused COVID-19 pandemic outbreak which has a high spread rate due to high viability on various material surfaces. Semiconductor-based photocatalysts such as TiO2 can be an alternative as an antimicrobial material because they can utilize photon energy to form reactive oxygen species (ROS) which can inactivate microbes. However, TiO2 has high bandgap energy, low absorption edge and high recombination rate of charge carriers so that it can only be activated under UV light. Therefore, it is necessary to increase photocatalytic activity in visible light through the formation of heterojunction semiconductor nanoparticles with CuInS2 QDs which has a low bandgap energy. In this research, synthesis will be carried out using the wet chemical method with variations in reaction temperature in the synthesis of CuInS2 QDs and the concentration of TTIP as a precursor for TiO2 which affects the mass ratio of CuInS2 QDs: TiO2, so that it can increase the absorption range to visible light and widen the energy bandgap to inhibit the recombination rate of charge carriers.
