Abstract

Partial Discharge (PD) is the initial phenomenon of a breakdown in isolation equipment. Early detection for PD is a preventive measure whose effectiveness is continuously sought in order to find detection without physical contact and to facilitate monitoring. In an isolation equipment, PD is generally not only at one location, it could be that in the equipment there are two different location where the PD event occurs and it is called a multisource PD. Thus, equipment is needed to detect multisource PD effectively.
The use of Ultra High Frequency (UHF) to detect PD is a new innovation that continues to be searched for in its authentication development. This study also utilizes UHF to detect several PD events by utilizing two types of electrodes, namely needle to plane and rod to plane as implications of the two PD signals. The UHF signal is captured by the monopole antenna, and transmitted to the signal processor in the form of the NI 9775 so that it can receive a signal of 1500 cycles. The results from NI 9775 were processed using Matlab to obtain Phase-Resolved Partial Discharge (PRPD). PRPD is a pattern of PD that is commonly used for monitoring the occurrence of PD which can be used to determine the possible origin of PD. The PRPD obtained by the antenna is compared with the PRPD HFCT results to determine the effectiveness of using the antenna in detecting PD. In addition, to identify the antenna, a distance variant is used to determine the placement of the antenna distance which is more effective in capturing PD. Utilization of UHF can also be identified through changes in the radio signal captured by the antenna when there is a PD signal during testing.
The results showed that the use of HFCT is still the most effective PD detector. Positioning the best monopole antenna for PD detection at a distance of 5cm from single and multi-electrode. Based on the research shows that PD in air insulation is at a frequency of 100MHz-450MHz.
