Abstract

PT PAL Indonesia merupakan salah satu industri kemaritiman yang memproduksi sarana transportasi dan pertahanan kelautan di Indonesia. PT PAL menyediakan proses perawatan mesin kapal, yaitu test bench. Untuk melakukan pengujian diperlukan alat utama yaitu water brake dynamometer yang menggunakan air sebagai pembebanannya, maka diperlukan pompa untuk mengalirkan fluida ke water brake dynamometer. Proyek akhir ini bertujuan melakukan perencanaan ulang instalasi pompa dengan metode penyelesaian melalui perhitungan analitis dan numerik menggunakan software pipe flow expert. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pemilihan diameter pipa, perhitungan head efektif, daya, efisiensi, dan pemilihan pompa. Proyek akhir ini juga menganalisa penyebab kegagalan operasi pada pompa yang diduga mengalami kavitasi. Dari perencanaan ulang diperoleh diameter pipa suction yang sesuai dengan nominal pipe size yaitu 200 mm dan pipa discharge 125 mm. Dengan kapasitas 114 m³/jam didapat head efektif instalasi pompa sebesar 15,596 m, NPSHa sebesar 3,99 m, dan didapatkan daya pompa sebesar 7,5 kW. Dengan kebutuhan tersebut, maka dipilih pompa sentrifugal end suction dengan merek Ebara dengan model 4JCA511 dan prediksi efisiensi pompa pada kondisi operasi sebesar 76%. Penyebab kegagalan operasi pompa diduga karena pompa mengalami kavitasi akibat temperatur fluida yang terlalu tinggi dan kurangnya perawatan pada pompa.

PT PAL Indonesia is one of the maritime industries that produce sea transportation and Indonesia’s ocean defense. PT PAL Indonesia provides ship maintenance processes. One of the processes is test bench. As the main device of test bench, water brake dynamometer use water as its loads. For complete the process, it needs pumps for support fluids necessity to water brake dynamometer. This final project purposes to redesign pump installation by figuring the solution with analytical and numerical methods using pipe flow expert software. This research begins with manual (analytical) calculation of pumps capacities, power, efficiency, and effective head installation required. This final project analyzed cause of pump’s failure operating that leads assumption to pump cavitation. According to the results, suitable value of suction pipe diameter is 8 inches or the nominal pipe size is 200 mm, and discharge pipe diameter is 5 inches with nominal pipe size 125 mm. Pump capacity = 114 m³/h, effective head installation = 15,596 m, NPSHa = 3,99 m, and the pump power = 7,5 kW. With the required data known, the suitable pump selection for this design is end suction centrifugal type pump from Ebara brand model 4JCA511 with predicted efficiency on operating condition is 76%. Failed pump operation caused by cavitation due too high fluid temperature and lack of maintenance.
