Abstract

The innovation design of offshore structure has developed quite rapidly in line with the increasing demand for energy from oil and gas in the world. One of innovation is the use of a modified or minimum jacket structure. A minimum jacket structure is very suitable to use at marginal fields because the design of the structure is more economical in terms of cost and easy to move and reuse than the conventional jacket. This paper presents optimization design of the jacket braces in term of braces pattern selection and sizing with the objective function of minimizing weight of the minimum jacket. The optimization process is carried out in 2 steps optimization scenarios which are to select brace configuration among various variation and sizing the jacket brace dimension through an in-place analysis of the jacket structure. Variation of the brace configurations are V-braces, N-braces, and K-braces patterns. Then the second optimization scenario by modeling the variation of the brace dimensions including outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness (WT) with 12 model variations. The results showed that optimazation yields on a minimum jacket has a lighter weight of 3.542,11 kips, where the weight of existing minimum jacket structure is 15,9 % lighter than the weight of the initial jacket structure, that is 4.211,96 kips.
