Abstract

Imports of non-palm edible oil in Indonesia have always been in high demand. Rice bran oil is one type of non-palm edible oil that has the potential as a substitute for edible oil made from palm oil. From a health perspective, edible oil that is good for consumption is edible oil that contains high oleic of free fatty acids. Among the edible oils often consumed by Indonesians, rice bran oil has a high oleic content of 40-50%. Therefore a factory is designed which is planned to operate continuously 24 hours for 330 days per year with a production capacity of 16,000 tons/day. This factory will be established in Lamongan, East Java, with rice bran production in the last 5 years of 363 thousand tons. There are three main stages in the manufacture of edible oil from rice bran, including: Preparation of raw materials (Pre-treatment), Extraction Process, and Purification Process. In the purification stage, it is expected to have an FFA content of less than 0.3%. The source of investment in edible oil factories from rice bran comes from 50% personal funds and 50% loan funds from banks, with bank interest and inflation rates of 8% and 1.55% per year, respectively. To produce a rice bran edible oil factory with a factory age of 10 years and a construction period of 2 years, an investment cost of Rp. 216,472,733,453.87 is needed. Based on economic analysis, the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is 28.80% and the Pay Out Time (POT) is 2.87 years with a Break Even Point (BEP) of 36.05% in a linear way. Therefore, by analysing the calculated economic and sensitivity, the edible oil factory from rice bran is feasible to be established.
