Abstract

Context: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is used by companies to fully integrate data and support all major business functions within the organization, as well as at PT. Sun Artha Putra Mandiri and PT. Transcoal Pacific. The lack of use of Business Process Management (BPM) in Indonesia compared to the benefits offered by the system and the inequality between ERP users, both those who have paid attention to business processes in their companies or not, are the reasons for this research. Problems: The gap occurs because there are ERP user companies that have not identify their business process management as a whole, including monitoring and controlling processes. The monitoring process aims to evaluate whether the ERP implementation aligns with the business processes that have been automated with its operation. If an evaluation does not accur, the company cannot identify problems that arise after ERP implementation such as bottlenecks in business processes so that the use of ERP is not optimal. Objectives: This study aims to identify whether the implementation of BPM has an effect on increasing the success of ERP implementation in both companies. Methods: This study uses BPM-IA framework for assessing the implementation of business process management, which has formed an interview instrument, to then conduct an assessment of the implementation of BPM in the case study object company. This research also uses the Shang & Seddon framework related to the assessment of the benefits of enterprise systems in the field of operational benefits to measure ERP’s improvement benefit. Data were taken from interviews and document observations, which were then analyzed and compared between the two case studies. Results: The final result of this research is to discover the level of business process management implementation in companies that impelemented ERP as well as the factors that influence it. Benefit: This research is expected to be able to help IT and marine logistics companies identify problematic aspects in implementing BPM in companies so that they can emphasize the importance of implementing BPM in ERP user companies, and can be used as a reference for further research on qualitative BPM.
