Abstract

Protection coordination in an electrical system in industry is very important. Because it prevents the risk of damage to equipment due to abnormal disturbances in the electrical system. Protection in the industry must be well coordinated in order to selectively determine the point where disturbances occur and break the circuit by opening the nearest breaker. Blackout case at PT. Pertamina RU V Balikpapan is caused by a failure of coordination in the protection of its electrical system, which was initially caused by an abnormal disturbance in one of the feeders, namely the occurrence of a short circuit current. Due to this disturbance, it causes a voltage sag which then triggers the release of the motor contactor coil to work on the feeder. Furthermore, the protection equipment in the area has failed to coordinate to secure the disturbance, so it is necessary to evaluate the condition of the existing electrical system, namely by resetting the protection equipment of PT. Pertamina RU V Balikpapan at the SS70A plant, after finding a way to overcome the voltage sag so that the drop voltage would not be too large, by adding an isolation transformer to the feeder. So it can be found the protection equipment rating parameters to improve the protection coordination system and perform transient stability analysis to determine the voltage sag condition when a disturbance occurs.
