Abstract

The process of installing the V-Bracket is one of the critical processes in shipbuilding. In the process of installing the V-Bracket at PT PAL, there were still indications of the occurrence of waste, including defects in the V-Bracket. This has become one of the company's focuses to minimize the waste to improve the quality of the process and the results of the V-Bracket installation. Solving this problem is done using the Lean Six Sigma method. Based on the results of waste identification with the E-DOWNTIME classification, it is known that the critical wastes are defects, waiting, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS). Next, the calculation of the sigma level value and process capability analysis was carried out with the result of 2.45 and the process performance was not yet capable. In the next step, an analysis of the causes of critical waste is carried out using Five Whys. Furthermore, an analysis is carried out using Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) on each root cause of critical waste to determine recommendations for improvement based on the highest Risk Priority Number (RPN). As a result, the potential for Elongated Indication (EL) failure on waste defects becomes a potential failure with the highest RPN value so that recommendations for improvement are prepared to overcome these potential failures. After making recommendations for improvement, a comparison of the sigma level values in the existing condition and estimation is carried out after the improvement recommendations are implemented. From these calculations, it was obtained that the sigma level increased from 2.45 σ to 2.95 σ. This shows the potential for quality improvement in the V-Bracket installation process.
