Abstract

The utilization of renewable energy as a source of electrical energy is
currently growing. One that is experiencing development is Photovoltaic
(PV). Problems arise due to the operation of Photovoltaic (PV) in the
system. Solar Power Plants (PLTS) can only produce electricity during
the day so that at night the burden on PLN is very high. The imbalance
between demand and supply of electricity needs during the day and night
makes electricity production not optimal to form a curve called the duck
curve. The higher the distance of the surge in the electricity load, the
higher the operating costs of PLN's generation. The operation of PLN's
generators when PLTS operates under the influence of Pumped Hydro
Storage (PHS) is the most important thing at this time. The power plant
operation strategy is a step taken to get the most economical combination
for each plant during the day and night. The operation of PLTS creates a
shortage of burden on the side of PLN. This lack of load will be utilized
by Pumped Hydro Storage to pump water to the reservoir above and
channeled back down to rotate the turbine and drive the generator at
night. By knowing the characteristics of PLTS and the characteristics of
Pumped Hydro Storage can determine the combination of generators by
PLN. It is hoped that this research can determine the most economical
combination of thermal generators with the use of Pumped Hydro Storage
to reduce load spikes at night due to the widespread influence of PLTS
installations.
