Abstract

A Bathymetric surveys are needed to carry out seabed mapping which is needed for various activities such as shipping navigation, exploration, seabed dredging, research and many more. Bathymetric survey activities can be carried out using various instruments, which is an acoustic instrument, namely the Multibeam echosounder which can produce depth values by utilizing the reflection of acoustic waves reflected from the seabed. This study was conducted to analyze the effect of the frequency of acoustic waves on the reading of the depth of the seabed using the Multibeam echosounder instrument, as well as the correlation between wave penetration and sediment types. The method used in this study is a method of comparing each data sample between two different frequencies. Data samples were taken using various frequencies that can be emitted by the R2Sonic 2026 multibeam echosounder, namely the frequencies of 100 kHz, 200 kHz and 400 kHz. and 200 kHz by 100 kHz. The results of the research show that the 400 kHz frequency produces the surface with the highest elevation and the best resolution, after that the 200 kHz surface and the deepest surface are produced by the 100 kHz frequency with the lowest resolution. The biggest difference in depth (∆h) in data 2 is between a frequency of 400 kHz and a frequency of 100 kHz with the largest difference being 0.58 m and the smallest difference being 0.02 m. Meanwhile, the smallest difference is found in data 1, which is between the frequencies of 200 kHz and 100 kHz with the largest difference of 0.35 m for the smallest difference of -1.15 m. The result of the correlation between wave penetration (∆h) and sediment type (dB), shows the highest correlation of R=-0.230 (low relationship) at the value of (∆h) frequency of 400 kHz with 200 kHz while the lowest correlation is at the value of (∆h) frequency of 200 kHz with 100 kHz of R=0.019, a negative value indicates the relationship between the two data is inversely proportional, the deeper the wave penetration the lower the backscatter value (dB).
