Abstract

Ocularcentrism is a phenomenon that causes perceptual bias and epistomology; gave birth to the view that the degree of sight is above the other senses. This phenomenon has an impact on current architectural designs, where the experience of the five human senses in architectural space is reduced; creating a society that has no memory connection to a place, encourages human alienation from the environment. With this phenomenon, this design tries to give a new perspectif of space by
creating a multisensory space experience that evokes the five human senses, so as to create experiences and distinctive memories in architectural space. The design functions of hot springs and spas are located in Jakarta, where this phenomenon often occurs in big cities.
Based on the understanding of the above proposition, the design hypothesis that’s created is MSSE (Multisensory Space Experience) with tropical rainforest characteristic that provides a relaxing experience in the design object. The experience in the forest creates a sense of relaxation and is able to make humans connect to their innermost inner self, where the five human senses are involved in the process.
In achieving the design proposition, the theory used in the design is An Architecture of The Seven Senses by Juhani Pallasma about how sensory experiences are presented in architecture, as well as using analogy (associating states a and b based on their similarities) and synesthetic (using synesthesia to create multisensory design) when exploring and constructing designs.
