Abstract

Public space is flexible and tends to always change according to the context. Public space as a place of interaction for humans has experienced a significant change in context due to the COVID-19 phenomenon that has hit all parts of the world. In the new normal period (new conditions after the COVID-19 pandemic) which is predicted to occur ten years after this infectious disease vaccination effort, the possibility of this pandemic will subside but it is undeniable that there will be changes in human behavior to become aware of distance and territory in interacting. The COVID-19 pandemic provides an opportunity to rethink the quality and rearrange the basic components of publik spaces that must be prepared in the new normal era.
Given the high chance of an increase in visitors after the pandemic subsides, a new alternative design of publik spaces which contains entertainment programs that consider controlling the density of visitors will become an important requirement in the future.
The controlled density of visitors can be achieved by experimenting in aspects of space optimally, especially regarding the space boundaries. The final project design apply proxemics theory approach and behavior mapping methods to obtain ideas that must be considered in the design. While the affordance design method is applied to help convey these ideas regarding controlling the density of visitors to programs and architectural elements.
