Abstract

The current pandemic has forced the learning system to be carried out boldly so that the occupancy rate of school buildings has decreased. The decrease in the occupancy rate of the school building causes a decrease in efficiency which at the construction stage has used a lot of energy and materials. Based on the approach used, namely sustainable building, which focuses on how the building can last a long time, it is necessary to maintain the occupancy rate of the building. One way is by converting the school building for other activities, which require the role of space flexibility. If only before the pandemic was designed to be more flexible, it would be possible for schools to switch functions to other programs without undergoing a significant overhaul so that the occupancy of school buildings can be maintained. The object of the design is a private high school with a day school system that can be converted into a community center while learning is carried out boldly by applying the concept of space flexibility, which can be adjusted and can be changed. The program community center is a program formed from a collection of community activities around the school grounds that occurred during a pandemic and is temporary so that the program community center will disappear when the pandemic ends. In the transformation process, the method of slicing space is used to generate a new space that can facilitate both typologies, so that when activating the function of each typology, it can work optimally. By turning the function of the school into a community center, the school building continues to work optimally during the pandemic, on the other hand, it can also facilitate the activities of residents around the school grounds during a pandemic.
