Abstract

With the advent of technological innovations, the growth rate of motorized vehicle consumer is surely increasing. One of the alternative of such conundrum has been invented a while ago which is the bicycle. Although with how most Indonesian metropolotian city street infrastucture has uneven contours and street quality which dissuade bicycle rider to use such vehicle as it could endanger their safety and reduce their comfort in riding. Therefore to solve that problem, it could use an Automated Bicycle Gear Transmission, which is a set of device that could help a rider to shift their gear when the need arises, for example an elevated road or slowed cadence.
The integrated system has the ability to detect the power loss that was done by the rider when the terrain, inclination or other factors that could be able to influence the rider’s cadence. This device would need a cadence sensor to be able to detect the amount of the rider’s cadence. Such data would later be calculated by the ESP32 to determine when would be a good time to change the gear automatically. After the decision made by the system, the servo actuator would change the bike’s gear according to such decision. The system also has 77,3% chance of accuracy in actuation. In other way, the system could detect the rider’s need of changing the gear without having the need to fiddle with the shifter themselves, which they could pay a lot more attention towards their own safety when they’re riding out in the open. With such system, it is hoped that a beginner bicycle driver would use the bicycle as one of many alternatives when they traverse in a metropolitan city.
