Abstract

Chitosan/ZnO/UiO-66 materials have been successfully synthesized, starting with the synthesis of UiO-66 using the solvothermal method in DMF solvent at 120 °C for 24 hours, and the synthesis of ZnO using the coprecipitation method. Modification of UiO-66 framework with the addition of 5, 7 and 10% w/w ZnO to the total mass of ZnO/UiO-66, and the addition of 5% w/w chitosan to the total mass of ZnO/UiO-66 was carried out by impregnation in stages. The synthesized materials are denoted as UiO-66, CS/ZnO(5)/UiO-66, CS/ZnO(7)/UiO-66 and CS/ZnO(10)/UiO-66. The diffractogram of the synthesized materials showed characteristic peaks at 2θ = 7.21° and 8.33° similar to that of reported UiO-66 diffractogram. FTIR spectra of the synthesized materials showed absorption bands at the same wavenumber as standard UiO-66 and ZnO. The surface morphology of Chitosan/ZnO/UiO-66 had the form of agglomerated crystals/particles similar to the standard UiO-66 but irregular and rough. The results of the photocatalytic methyl orange showed that CS/ZnO(5)/UiO-66 had the highest % removal of 81.01% with a photocatalyst dose of 10 mg in 20 mL of 25 mg/L MO solution.
