Abstract

================================================================================================
Modification of the surface of the PVDF/LiCl membrane using NaY-Zeolite material by spray coating has been successfully carried out in this study. NaY-Zeolite was synthesized by hydrothermal method at 100°C for 7 hours. The preparation of PVDF/LiCl membrane with N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent was carried out using the phase inversion method. PVDF/LiCl/NaY-Zeolite membranes in all variations were characterized by XRD instruments, FTIR, Water Contact Angle (WCA) test, as well as water permeation and harvesting tests for microalgae Dunaliella salina. The results showed that NaY-Zeolite coating with various concentrations (0.10, 0.15, 0.20% w/w) has been shown to increase the hydrophilicity and performance of PVDF/LiCl membranes for harvesting microalgae Dunaliella salina. The increase in the hydrophilicity of the membrane was indicated by a decrease in the contact angle from 84.14° for the PVDF/LiCl membrane without modification to 68.79° for the PVDF/LiCl/NaY-Zeolite 0.20% w/w membrane. Based on the performance test, PVDF/LiCl/NaY-Zeolite 0.15% w/w gave the best results compared to other membranes, with a water permeation rate of 500 L/m2h, an average flux of 159.09 L/m2h, and a rejection percent reached 100% in the harvesting of microalgae Dunaliella salina.
