Abstract

Cranioplasty is a common neurosurgical procedure performed to reconstruct cranial defects. A head trauma patient usually needs to wait a long time to have an implant in the skull, this is because to make an implant model takes a long time and requires people who are experts in their fields to design implants. Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) is one method in Deep Learning that is able to reconstruct the missing parts of 3D objects properly.
The purpose of making this Undergraduate Thesis is to build a good Generative Adversarial Network model to reconstruct the injured/perforated head part to get the implant and process it into a triangular mesh shape that is ready to be printed.
Based on the results of the experiments that have been carried out, the GAN model with the addition of squuze-and-excitation blocks, with a batch size of 16 on the discriminator and 8 on the generator, learning rate of 1x10-4, and using binary crossentropy as the loss function has produced good results in the 29th epoch with a dice similarity value of 0.96011 from ground truth. For post-processing, it is best to use a median filter with kernel size 5 on voxel, and a laplacian filter with 100 iterations on a triangular mesh made with the marching cube method.
