Abstract

There are several problems in reservoir characterization, one of them is the comparison between many seismic inversion methods and which one of those are good in producing an inversion cross-section for further reservoir interpretation. This study aims to characterize the reservoir using the comparison of the acoustic impedance seismic inversion (AI) method with the wavelet variation. This research was conducted in the “BGN” field in the Nias Basin, off the west coast of the island of Sumatra. The data used in this study are 2D post-stack migration seismic data, each of it contains one checkshot, marker, top, horizon, and well data as well as regional geology in the "BGN" field in the Nias Basin. The result of this research shows that the reservoir model generated using Model Based inversion method by applying the wavelet results from Statistical extraction method is the best reservoir model with the highest correlation value of 0.998636. The hydrocarbon prospect zone is assumed to be in thelayer Late Miocene – Middle Miocene with a depth of 5040 ft to 5240 ft which has a range of acoustic impedance values between 12,500 ft/s*g/cc to 24,100 ft/s*g/cc and porosity values between 42% to 60%, where the layer at that depth is composed ofcarbonate Porous. While the carbonate reservoir zone is assumed to be in layers of the same age, but identified at depths of 4700 ft to 5040 ft and 5240 ft to 5500 ft, with range an acoustic impedance value between 25,700 ft/s*g/cc to 40,600 ft/s*g/cc and range the porosity values between 15% to 40%.
