Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries in the world with a high level of earthquake vulnerability, so that over the time in the term of construction, building structural design is required to meet 3 (three) main aspects; namely: strength, rigidity, and ductility. It aims to prevent the occurrence of adverse structural failures and even to prevent the loss of life. An alternative effort these days is the application of passive control device technology in the form of fluid viscous damper (FVD), aimed at improving the performance of building structures in conditions of receiving dynamic loads (earthquake load, wind load, or engine vibration load) (Taylor & Duflot, 2016). The purpose of this project is to determine how fluid viscous damper device placement affect structural behavior by looking at structural performance including the fundamental period of the structure, the base shear force, the inter-story drift, and the level of structural performance. The analysis study was conducted on SMRF (SRPMK in Indonesia) 10-storey building with shear walls in Surabaya by modifying the structure to SMRF (SRPMK) with FVD, and analyzed to non-linear static procedure using pushover analysis method. The results of this analysis showed that the #2 FVD placement mounting pattern with the installation arrangement on the exterior portal of the building provided better structural performance based on the ductility aspect and the level of structural performance.
