Abstract

In order to reduce the impedance value of the electrical distribution system on the ship, it is necessary to reconfigure the electricity distribution system on the tanker from AC to DC. With the reconfiguration of the system from AC to DC, the impedance value of the system will decrease because there is only resistance (R). As a result of the impedance value dropping, the value of the voltage drop and power loss will also decrease. Decreasing the voltage drop can have a good effect as electrical components will last longer. The research process begins by modeling a single line diagram of the electricity distribution system on a tanker. In this study, power flow simulation was carried out using simulation software. Data retrieval is taken by comparing the default distribution system on tankers, namely AC and then changing or reconfiguring it to DC. Data retrieval is taken on several ship operating conditions, namely sailing, leaving-arriving, loading-unloading, and at port. Based on the simulation results obtained, the results of the power flow of each bus, the simulation results are in the form of active power, reactive power, apparent power, power factor, current, and network power loss. For the voltage drop is taken at each bus. The resulting power flow value based on the simulation results shows that the DC distribution system produces a larger power flow when compared to the AC distribution system, and the largest operating condition is in the loading-unloading condition, the total DC power flow value is greater than AC. As a result of reconfiguring the AC power distribution system into DC the value of the voltage drop for each bus in the distribution system becomes smaller and the value of the voltage drop always has a value below the standard specified by IEC 5%. On the other hand, the value of power loss in the DC distribution system based on the simulation results has a higher value than the AC distribution system.
