Abstract

Water is a source of life that is very important for human life. The unequal availability of clean water is an important issue because it affects all aspects of life, from health to community welfare. The electricity supply that has not been reached by all people also adds to the problem. Therefore, the reverse osmosis (RO) method of desalination of water is an alternative because it has been widely used in various parts of the world. This study focuses on the energy source used to supply small scale RO using a hybrid PV/T solar collector. The PV/T solar collector design will be made and simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to determine the thermal work analysis. The design of the PV/T solar collector system with a pipe placement configuration that is attached directly to the backsheet of the PV Panel is the model with the best performance when flowing with fluid to cool the PV Panel while heating the brackish water. Comparison of the fluid temperature at the outlet of the solar collector obtained a value of 48.38 C for experimental results and 48.88 C for simulation results. This shows that there is a 1.02% difference in error between the two. Meanwhile, there is a difference of 1-2 C in the ratio of PV surface temperatures. Margin error occurs because the input value entered into the simulation is the average value of the experimental data carried out, while the actual experimental data has a fluctuating value.
