Abstract

Indonesia merupakan negara kepulauan sehingga peran transportasi laut dalam pembangunan menjadi sangat penting. Salah satunya adalah kapal feri. Untuk mencapai kecepatan yang optimal pada sebuah kapal, banyak aspek yang akan terpengaruh dan harus diperhatikan salah satunya adalah aspek perencanaan dari sistem propulsi. Propeller sendiri merupakan salah satu alat gerak kapal mekanik yang memberian kekuatan dengan mengubah rotasi gerak ke gaya dorong. Sulit untuk menentukan karakteristik propeller ukuran penuh di perairan terbuka dengan memvariasikan kecepatan gerak maju dan laju revolusi pada rentang dan mengukur daya dorong dan torsi propeller. Metode eksperimen sangat mahal dan lama sehingga tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membandingkan kinerja propeller berdasarkan variasi distribusi pitch yaitu increasing pitch propeller, constant pitch propeller dan decreasing pitch propeller, mana yang paling optimum dan bisa digunakan pada kapal feri menggunakan desain propeller dasar tipe B series dengan 3 variasi yang telah disebutkan diatas dengan metode numerik CFD. Hasil dari CFD tersebut kemudian divalidasikan dengan data eksperimen open water test yang telah dilakukan oleh BTH-BPPT. Setelah dilakukan validasi antara hasil open water test dengan simulasi CFD, hasil yang telah diperoleh dapat dibuat menjadi diagram KT-KQ-J. Hasil yang didapat pada tugas akhir ini yaitu propeller bertipe decreasing pitch propeller memiliki nilai efisiensi paling optimum dibandingkan dua (2) variasi lainnya.

Indonesia is an archipelagic country so the role of sea transportation in development is very important. One of them is the ferry. To achieve optimal speed on a ship, many aspects will be affected and one of them must be considered is the planning aspect of the propulsion system. The propeller itself is a mechanical motion device that provides strength by changing the rotational motion into thrust. It is difficult to determine a full-size propeller in open water by varying the forward speed and revolution rate over the range and measuring propeller thrust and torque. The experimental method is very expensive and time consuming so that the purpose of this study is to compare the performance of the propeller based on variations in pitch distribution, namely increasing propeller pitch, propeller constant pitch and propeller decreasing, which one is the most optimal and can be used on ferries using B series basic propeller design with the 3 variations mentioned above using the CFD numerical method. The results of the CFD were then validated with the experimental data of the open water test that had been carried out by BTH-BPPT. After validation between the results of the open water test and CFD simulation, the results obtained are KT-KQ-J diagrams. The result of this final project is that the decreasing pitch propeller type has the most optimal efficiency value compared to the other two (2) variations.
