Abstract

Advances in technology today, especially in the shipping industry, make the demand for fuel increasing. Issues regarding the environment and accidents that occur make industry players continue to innovate to overcome these problems so that they start using dual fuel engines using diesel and LNG on ships. The use of dual fuel engines on ships is still low, especially the harbor tug. Harbor Tug ship is a ship that can be used to maneuver or move, whose main function is to pull or push other ships in port. Harbor Tug ships are also able to tow barges, damaged ships, and other equipment in the port which certainly requires a fairly high fuel consumption. Because of this, to reduce operational costs and environmental problems, this dual fuel engine uses diesel and LNG. The use of this dual fuel engine does not mean solving problems that exist, one of which is a security problem, namely in the fuel system where the fuel itself is flammable and explosive, so a system is needed to maintain the state of the fuel to remain stable until the combustion process Inside the engine occurs the inert gas system. In this final project, calculations, flow processes, operational schemes and layouts of the inert gas system for the harbor tug dual fuel engine ship 2x2500HP will be carried out. In this final project, the operational mode of the inert gas system will be obtained, namely during the bunkering process, changing the gas mode to diesel, as well as emergency and maintenance. The inert gas used in this final project is nitrogen with a volume requirement of 8.00490205 m3. This final project produces two designs of nitrogen supply systems, namely using a nitrogen generator and a nitrogen cylinder.
