Abstract

The rapidly growing industrial development in the 4.0 industrial revolution era has resulted in the need for energy also increasing, where the need for energy / fuel is not matched by the ability to provide energy. Therefore, the use of alternative energy, such as natural gas, is used to help support energy needs. Natural gas in its use must be cooled to a cryogenic temperature as low as -163oC so that it will be in liquid form (Liquified Natural Gas) which aims to minimize its volume so that it can be more easily stored and transported. In order to maximize the storage of LNG tanks, a heat balance analysis is carried out on the LNG tank which aims to determine the temperature and temperature distribution formed on the tank structure material and tank insulation material. Calculations Heat balance analysis is performed using the FEA (Finite Element Analysis) method. A steady state thermal analysis simulation has been carried out on a tank that has been made for an LNG storage tank for dual fuel harbor tug 2 x 2500 HP. The materials used are Outer wall (ASTM 516 Carbon Steel), Insulator Wall (Polyurethane), and Inner Wall (ASME SA 240 Stainless Steel) and compared with Insulation Material (Perlite). The analysis was carried out with volume variations for both scenarios of Polyurethane and Perlite insulation materials 85%,75%,50%,25%. From these variations, the outer temperature for Polyurethane material is -20⁰ C on average at 3⁰ C Perlite, at 85% full volume. And continues to increase until the volume of 25% on Polyurethane for an average of 19⁰ C on Perlite 3.7⁰ C.
