Abstract

The world of medical education since the beginning of 2020 has been disturbed by the 2019 Coronavirus Disease Pandemic. PPDS and Surgical Residents have difficulty in training their abilities. Surgical skills training is crucial because it is required to have specific skills before actually dealing with surgery patients. Their current learning method uses videos and pictures of operating stages, so they have difficulty imagining and practicing these skills. Since 1990, virtual reality medical training has been recognized to have great potential. VR in Indonesia in medical training currently trains visual and memory aspects, while surgery requires skills. Thus, this study aims to find an initial design for virtual reality-based surgery skills training for cranioplasty surgery cases. In this research, cranioplasty surgery was chosen, considering that this surgical stage is not too complex besides, the brain is one of the urgent organs for humans. The research method begins with conducting interviews and benchmarking to obtain initial information. After getting the data, a matrix value and roadmapping are carried out. The roadmap contains the VR level so that the reference product is obtained. Furthermore, the study and analysis of components based on the reference product will produce the design requirements and objectives. The design concept of this workstation is an effortless simulation with a blend of futuristic and minimalism. At the end of the study, we will have a completed idea for workstation design for cranioplasty surgery training based on virtual reality.
