Abstract

Iron is one of the good materials in the use of magnets. The magnetic force itself can be produced and stored by certain materials or objects and classified into three namely; Ferromagnetic, Paramagnetic, and Diamagnetic. Iron material can also be produced in many forms, one of which is iron sand. Iron sand is proven to have many benefits such as Magnetite
(Fe3O4). Magnetite has many uses, one of which is used as the main material of cassette tapes. Even so, the potential of iron sand in Indonesia is still not really known the amount and distribution due to lack of information and not yet done mapping in more detail, so the utilization and development of iron sand is less optimal. Nitrides in iron sand are proven to produce nitride iron powder (Fe¬N). Nitride iron powder that has been produced from the nitride process is proven to experience improved iron characteristics such as, material surface hardness, material fatigue, corrosion resistance, and increased magnetic saturation of the material. Optimization of the use of Nitride Iron Sand in
Indonesia is also still very lacking, therefore the final task of research is carried out the influence of variations in the rate of gas flow in the Process Nitriding Fe3O4 Using NH3 Gas Media.
In this study will be conducted magnetite nitrides process
(Fe3O4) using Ammonia Gas media (NH3). Where the sample Fe3O4 will be divided into 6 samples that each sample weighs 10 grams. Then continued with the nitrides process. The nitrides treatment was carried out using a tube furnace at the Molina Laboratory of the Center for Excellence in Automotive Control Systems (PUI-SKO) ITS. In this study, the nitrides process was conducted by heating fe3O4 samples at 625oC with a variation in
flow rate of 100 mL/min; 150 mL/min; 200 mL/min, with a
resistant time of 2 hours and 4 hours, and a pressure of 0.03
Mpa.
There is an influence of variations in gas flow rate in the
nitrides process. The increasing rate of gas flow applied to the nitrides process, the presentation of compressed Iron Nitride will decrease. At a flow rate of 100 mL /min found the most percentage of Fe3N is 60.3%, then at the gas flow rate of 150 mL / min fe3n percentage obtained by 5.2%, and at the gas flow rate of 200 mL / min found fe3n percentage as much as 12.5%. At a flow of 150 mL /min seen the presentation of iron nitride the least however, looking at the results obtained at a gas flow rate of 200 mL / min is also quite a bit, it can be concluded that the high rate of gas flow will affect the nitrides process and produce a smaller percentage of Iron Nitride
