Abstract

System development and optimization needed to be done to achieve 100% service coverage target. Operational costs could be reduced by minimizing energy consumption. Service optimization could be done by evaluating the existing drinking water distributin network to find out problems in the built design related to water flow velocity and pressure. Pump performance audits were conducted to determine pump operational efficiency. This study aimed to analyze the problems that exist in the distribution network and pump performance so that recommendations for improvements could be given if the distribution network was not optimum. Moreover, the savings opportunities that could be made as well as the cost requirements.
This study used descriptive research method with a survey research method approach and case studies. The results of the primary and secondary data obtained were then processed related to the analysis of the existing piping network using EPANET 2.2 program and an evaluation of the pump efficiency was carried out to determine the performance of the pump used. Furthermore, technical recommendations were given according to the design criteria. Based on the results of the improvement given, calculations were made regarding the energy saving opportunities that could carried out and the cost requirements needed.
The results of the overall network analysis were quite optimum. However, there were still many pipes with velocity values below the minimum standard value due to accommodating future customer development projections. The pump efficiency of service area I at peak hours was 38.41%, at minimum hours it was 21.68% and at an average usage of 31.6%. The pump efficiency of service area II at peak hours, minimum hours, and average usage were 53.23%, 30.70%, and 47.13% respectively. The electrical parameter values (voltage, current, and frequency) were still in accordance with the pump design and the power factor was ≥ 0.85. The recommendation was to replace the pump in service area I so that it saved electricity costs of Rp 842,089 per month with Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) value of 1.04 investment and a Payback Period of 9 years and 5 months. Meanwhile, in service area II pump, mechanical repair of pump and VSD reset were carried out to save electricity costs of Rp 968,881 every month.
