Abstract

East Java has 2 waters with different characteristics. In contrast to the northern waters of East Java, the southern waters of East Java have the characteristics of a steep topography, large waves, and are directly adjacent to the Indian Ocean, which are unique because they are influenced by monsoons and trade winds. Wave data is needed for shipping purposes, port layout, coastal building planning and so on. Marine information is still very limited due to the high cost of measuring wave height. So alternative data is needed to replace data from measurements in the field. For this reason, it is necessary to validate the satellite wave data with wave data from field measurements. Therefore, in this final project, the author analyzes the comparison of data from ERA5 ECMWF and BMKG data with field measurement data to analyze the level of correlation. From the analysis of the relationship level, the coefficient value is 0.65 where the relationship criteria from the two data are strong, and indicates that the ERA5 ECMWF data can be used for coastal planning purposes. After getting the correlation results, validation of the ERA5 ECMWF data was carried out with field measurement data observed in the Banyuwangi area. In calculating the wave height of the return period, the wave height of 100 years was obtained using 3 methods, namely Gumbel, Log Normal and Log Pearson III in the Southern Waters of East Java, respectively 0.944 m – 1.332 m; 0.94 m – 1,236 m; and 0.944 m – 1,258 m.
