Abstract

Fracture will be reduce body function. One of the ways to repair fracture is by applying a bone screw. A Bone screw is used to align and stabilize bone fragments throughout healing. The constituent materials use composite materials composed of biopolymers and bioceramics. This research utilizes PLLA and nano-HAp which will be modified using a coupling agents vinylsilane. Vinylsilane variation are 0% as control material, 1%, 3% and 5%. Then added nano-Hap with ratio of PLLA/nHAp of 70:30, 80:20, and 90:10. The results showed that the addition of vinylsilane coupling agents and reduction of the HAp mixture could increase and improve the mechanical and morphological properties of the specimen and reduce the rate of degradation thereby slowing down the degradation time. Variations in addition of 5% vinylsilane and the composition of PLLA/nano-HAp 90:10 that are close to the criteria for bone replacement, with tensile strength of 6.86 MPa, compressive strength of 30.62 MPa, and degradation time of 31.7 months.
