Abstract

Methylene blue (MB) is one of the dyes used in the textile industry, but it can pose a danger to the environment and humans, so a method is needed to remove it. This study discussed biodegradation of MB by immobilized filamentous fungus Trichoderma viride into SA/PVA/bentonite matrix. In this study, the immobilization method of entrapment technique was combined the composition of the matrix SA/PVA/Bentonite with a ratio 2:4:1 %. The biodecolorization process was carried out by two methods, namely free cell and immobilization. The results of this study showed that the immobilization method produced a maximum decolorization percentage of 95.72% meanwhile free cell 55.36 % with an incubation period of 7 days under static conditions. In this study the success of immobilization can be proven by FTIR spectra and SEM visualization. In the repeated measurement test (Reusability test), the immobilized beads showed that they could be reused for four cycles. These results indicated that T. viride immobilized on the SA/PVA/Bentonite matrix can colorize MB and can be used as an alternative to reduce the problem of existing pollutant waste.
