Abstract

World population growth occurs exponentially until now there are around 7.85 billion people on earth, so the need for food quality and food quantity is higher. The rise of urbanization causes more than half of the population to live in cities. The high demand for land for industry and housing causes agricultural land and green/infiltration areas in cities decrease, resulting in natural disasters such as global warming, floods, landslides and other natural events becoming a threat to city dwellers. Based on BPS data in 2018, Indonesia has experienced a decline in the function of agricultural land due to natural disasters such as droughts, floods, and other events. In addition, land conversion is also one of the causes. Therefore, a city is required to be able to meet the nutritional needs of its residents and provide emergency food stocks to deal with unexpected disasters. Research for the development of product innovation and agricultural technology is needed to overcome the problem of food availability for urban residents. To respond to these problems, a principle approach to the design of a research center is used that is comfortable for research activities and the principles of sustainability design to minimize the impact on the surrounding environment with the biomimicry method, namely using the principles that exist in nature as inspiration and innovation in solving problems in architectural design.
