Abstract
Indonesia merupakan negara maritim yang memiliki Sumber Daya Alam di laut yang melimpah. Ikan merupakan salah satu komoditas utama dari laut Indonesia. Pada saat ikan ditangkap diperlukan cool box untuk menjaga agar ikan tetap dalam kondisi segar. Pada saat ini nelayan tradisional menggunakan cool box berbahan styrofoam. Cool box berbahan styrofoam tidak ramah bagi lingkungan, karena material styrofoam membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk terurai. Sehingga diperlukan bahan insulasi cool box yang lebih ramah lingkungan. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan modifikasi cool box dengan material kayu sengon laut dan batang pisang dengan perekat PVAc sebagai variabelnya. Penelitian ini juga dilakukan serangkaian pengujian yaitu uji massa jenis, daya serap, kuat lentur, kuat tarik, kuat tekan, bakar, dan konduktivitas termal. Setelah dilakukan pengujian tersebut, dilakukan pembuatan cool box dengan material perbandingan antara batang pisang dan PVAc dipilih dengan hasil pengujian konduktivitas termal terkecil dan kayu sengon laut sebagai insulasi bagian luarnya. Dari hasil pengujian konduktivitas termal perbandingan antara batang pisang dan PVAc 10:0 memiliki hasil yang paling kecil yaitu sebesar 1,405 W/mK, dan sengon laut dengan hasil 1,626 W/mK. Eksperimen perbandingan antara cool box kayu dengon laut+batang pisang, dan cool box styrofoam dengan ikan tongkol 500 gram dan es basah 3 kg, yang dilakukan selama sehari (one day fishing). Dari eksperimen tersebut kedua cool box mampu mempertahankan suhu ruangan dibawah 20oC selama satu hari. Dari segi kemampuan cool box dalam mempertahankan suhu dingin, cool box styrofoam memiliki kemampuan yang lebih baik daripada cool box dengan bahan kayu sengon laut dan batang pisang.

Indonesia is a maritime country that has abundant natural resources in the sea. Fish is one of the main commodities of Indonesian seas. When fish are caught, a cool box is needed to keep the fish in fresh condition. At this time traditional fishermen use cool boxes made of styrofoam. Cool box made of styrofoam is not friendly to the environment, because styrofoam material takes a long time to decompose. So we need cool box insulation materials that are more environmentally friendly. In this study, modifications of the cool box were made with sengon sea wood and banana trunk with PVAc adhesive as a variable. This research also carried out a series of tests namely density, absorption, bending strength, tensile strength, compressive strength, burning, and thermal conductivity. After the tests were carried out, a cool box was made with a material comparison between banana trunk and PVAc selected with the results of the smallest thermal conductivity test and sengon laut wood as the outer insulation. From the results of the thermal conductivity test, the comparison between banana trunk and PVAc 10:0 has the smallest result of 1,405 W/mK, and sengon laut with the result of 1,626 W/mK. Comparison experiment between the wooden cool box with dengon laut+banana trunk, and the styrofoam cool box with 500 gram tuna and 3 kg wet ice, which was carried out for one day (one day fishing). From these experiments, both cool boxes were able to maintain room temperature below 20oC for one day. In terms of the ability of the cool box to maintain cold temperatures, the styrofoam cool box has a better ability than the cool box made of sengon sea wood and banana trunk.
