Abstract

Work stress disorder is a result of physical and psychological health disruption due to fatigue at work, which workers are vulnerable to, especially office workers. In addition to the workload and intrapersonal conflicts experienced by the workers, interpersonal communication can also trigger work stress disorders, such as spatial design and indoor environments. Narrow space for movement and social interaction, along with minimum access to natural components such as sunlight and fresh air can interfere with the user's physical health which leads to psychological health. Based on this condition, a different approach is required in designing office buildings that promote health and wellbeing.
An approach that prioritizes health and well-being of building user has been applied quite often in architecture, known as Therapeutic Architecture. Therapeutic architecture is a development of the healthcare architecture concept, which prioritizes user experience and considers the environment as a healing factor for both physical and psychological disorders. In contrast to healthcare buildings, the application of therapeutic architecture in office buildings serves as a driving force for activities that can affect physical fitness and stimulate relaxation,
where spatial elements integration in a design is the main criterion.
Relaxation activities and nature are used in design applications as a reference to create Salubrio Tower, a salubrious building for office workers. Concerning the physical and psychological health of the user, Salubrio Tower proposes a dynamic, explorable design that encourages user towards healing activities while working.
