Abstract

================================================================================================
Co-firing is a process of adding biomass to combustion at the PLTU as a partial replacement for coal with the aim of reducing pollution and consumption of fossil energy. The addition of biomass in the combustion process will also affect the performance of the generator and also the need for air for combustion. Because the calorific value of biomass is smaller than fossil fuels and the need for air in the combustion process will affect the performance of the fan. In this study, the object of research is PLTU unit 3 Paiton which will be observed and analyzed for generator performance, power and capacity of the fan if the co-firing method uses coal fuel of 4909 kcal/kg and wood pellet type biomass with variations in the co-firing ratio of 2, 5%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% are applied in PLTU unit 3 Paiton using a simulation method performed with cycle tempo 5.0 software. The simulation results show conformity with the theory.
The greater the co-firing ratio, the lower the performance of the generator. The efficiency of the generator experienced the highest decrease in the co-firing ratio of 60% coal and 40% wood pellets with a decrease of 0.739% compared to the baseline condition. The highest increase in NPHR was in the co-firing ratio of 60% coal and 40% wood pellets with a value of 0.759% compared to the baseline condition. Then the capacity and power of the primary air and secondary air/forced draft fan experienced the highest increase in the co-firing ratio of 70% coal and 30% wood pellet. Meanwhile, the capacity and power of the induced draft fan experienced the highest increase in the co-firing ratio of 60% coal and 40% wood pellet.
