Abstract

In the last 10 years, container throughput in the world has increased by 2.83% / year. With the increasing number of container distributions in the world, it has a direct impact in the equalls of container throughput in Indonesia which increases by 3.24% / year. To be able to handle the increasing number of containers, it is necessary to increase operational efficiency at the terminal. In the case of a container terminal, one of the efficiency indicators is the number of shifting that occur during the loading process. The data taken at the Terminal Petikemas Surabaya, shows that the number of shifting always increases every year with an average increase of 14% / year with losses reaching IDR 1,730,000,000 in one year. The research will focus on 3 areas, namely the stacking field (LP / Lapangan Penumpukan), the method of picking up containers and the stowage plan. To solve this problem, 44 scenarios were tested which will be solved using the First In First Serve (FIFS), Last In First Serve (LIFS) and Top Stack First Serve (TSFS) the solving methode with the MATLAB software. It was found that the stacking field (LP / Lapangan Penumpukan) for the vertical arrangement of containers and the stowage plan for the horizontal arrangement with the TSFS collection method had the smallest number of shifting after 50 times experiments were carried out. The MATLAB programming form was obtained for automating the selection of containers for the loading process to the ship.
