Abstract

The protection system has a significant role in the electrical system to protect the equipment from a disturbance or failure. Judging from these roles, it is necessary to have relays that have been coordinated with one another. The relay will work by tripping the circuit breaker when it detects a disturbance. However, suppose the relay is not appropriately coordinated. In that case, it will reduce the continuity of power flow, decrease damage, damage to equipment, and even result in blackouts in the electrical system, which have an impact on the productivity of the industry, as one of the state-owned companies engaged in oil mining in Indonesia, PT. Pertamina (Persero) Refinery Unit (RU) VI Balongan has an electric power protection system to support the production process.Along with developments, there are always additions and changes to the electrical system. So it is necessary to evaluate the existing protection coordination system to minimize the impact of disturbances and maintain the continuity of electricity supply. This final project evaluates the protection coordination system in the electrical system at PT. Pertamina (Persero) Refinery Unit (RU) VI Balongan due to retrofit on GE and Schneider ElectricManufactures relay aims to obtain the optimal value of the relay setting and the specifications provided by the manufacturer.
