Abstract

Electrical System 500 kV Java-Bali is an electrical system that supports large loads and the number of loads requested continues to increase. Therefore, the dynamic stability of the system is an important aspect in maintaining the reliability of the electric power system. The system can lose synchronization and end up in a blackout if the power system is in an unstable condition. One of the equipment that can be used to increase dynamic stability is the Power System Stabilizer (PSS). The PSS installed on the generator functions to increase positivedamping and suppress oscillation at low frequencies. Therefore, PSS parameter tuning is a crucial thing to do. In this final project, the phase compensation method is used to determine the value of the PSS parameter to be installed. This method is suitable for both single machine and multi machine systems. The disturbance applied in the PSS parameter tuning atthis final project is the load additionof 10% on the bus of Pedanfromitsexisting load. PSS is installed in the generator with the largest difference in capacity and generation, that isPLTU Paiton. The results of the time domain simulation carried out show that theinstallation of tuned PSSat the PLTU Paitoncan reduce overshoot and accelerate the settling time of interarea oscillations at the 500 kV Java-Bali generator frequency response compared to the overshoot and settling time values of the 500 kV Java-Bali generator for systems that are not installed with PSS.
