Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan oktan buster terhadap kualitas biodiesel dari biji karet. Oktan Buster yang digunakan adalah MTBE dan Toluene. Untuk tahap proses dilakukan proses double stage, yaitu esterifikasi dengan katalis asam H2SO4 dan transesterifikasi dengan katalis basa NaOH. Masing-masing proses pemanasan dilakukan pada suhu 60TC. Untuk proses esterifikasi dilakukan selama 60 menit sedangkan transesterifikasi selama 30 menit yang disertai dengan pengadukan. Produk Biodiesel dan gliserol dipisahkan. Selanjutnya dilakukan pemumian biodiesel dengan cara menambahkan air sebanyak 50% dari volume biodiesel dan mendiamkan selama 12-24 jam. Biodiesel kemudian ditambah dengan oktan buster. Rasio penambahan oktan buster terhadap volume biodiesel 0,00%; 0,50%; 1,00%; 1,50%; 2,00% dan 3,00%. Langkah terakhir melakukan analisa kualitas biodiesel yang meliputi analisa densitas, viskositas, flash point, kadar sulfur dan calculated cetane index. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa dengan penambahan oktan buster (MTBE dan Toluene) nilai densitas, viskositas telah memenuhi standar Forum Biodiesel Indonesia(FBI), sedangkan Calculated Cetane Index(CCI), kadar sulfur dan flash point belum memenuhi standar. Akan tetapi pada penambahan 3% Toluene nilai CCI telah memenuhi standar yaitu sebesar 51,16 dan nilai flashpoint mencapai standar minimum pada penambahan 3% MTBE yaitu 100TC.

Intention of this research to know the affect of addition of octane buster to quality biodiesel from rubber seed. Octane Buster used by MTBE and Toluene. For the phase of process conducted by process of double stage, that is esterification by catalyst H2SO4 and transesterification by catalyst NaOH. Each warm-up process conducted at temperature 60TC. To process the esterification conducted by during 60 minute while transesterification during 30 minute accompanied with the squealer. Biodiesel and gliserol dissociated is later then conducted by purification biodiesel by enhancing water as much 50% from volume of biodiesel and hush during 12-24 clock. Biodiesel is later then added with the octane booster. Ratio of addition of octane buster to volume biodiesel 0,00%; 0y50%; 1,00%; 1,50%; 2,00% and 3,00%. Last step do the analysis of quality biodiesel covering analysis density, viskosity, flash point, rate of sulphur and calculated cetane index. From this research in addition of octane booster(MTBE and Toluene), value of density and viscosity have fulfilled the Standar of Biodiesel Indonesia Forum. While Calculated Cetane Index (CCI), flash point and rate of sulphur obtained not yet fulfilled. However for addition 3% Toluene, CCI have fulfilled the tandar, that is 51,16 and flash point reach out for minimum standard for addition 3% MTBE, that is 100oC.
